50th Anniversary of the LASER

March 11, 2010

2010 marks the 50th anniversary of the laser, and various professional societies, companies, and institutions are commemorating not just the invention and first demonstration of the laser, but also the many applications

by which the laser has revolutionized technology and daily life. A central website for discovering more about the history and advancements of the laser may be found at http://www.laserfest.org.

The first Physics colloquium of the Spring semester will be given on Wednesday, January 13 by Dr. Linda Olafsen on her research in mid-infrared semiconductor lasers. Other activities and events to celebrate the laser will be announced throughout the year.
