Dr. Francesca Arnone

Dr. FRANCESCA ARNONE is an active flute and piccolo soloist, recitalist, and clinician dedicated to promoting new music and engaged musicianship. She earned flute performance degrees from Oberlin (BM), the San Francisco Conservatory (MM), and the University of Miami (DMA), where she studied with Robert Willoughby, Julia Bogorad-Kogan, Tim Day, and Christine Nield. While at San Francisco Conservatory she had the unique privilege of being a year-long participant in Bobby McFerrin's "Creativity 101" Class. ~ MORE...

Dr. Doris Deloach
Professor of Oboe
Chair, Instrumental Division

DORIS DeLOACH joined the Baylor faculty in 1972 after playing English horn for three seasons with the Nashville Symphony and completing the Doctorate in Oboe Performance at Florida State University. She has performed with the Atlanta Symphony, the Chattanooga Symphony, the Chattanooga Opera Orchestra, the Aspen Festival Chamber Orchestra, the American Institute of Musical Studies Orchestra in Graz, Austria, has soloed with the American Wind Symphony Orchestra and is principal oboist of the Waco Symphony Orchestra and a founding member of the Baylor Woodwind Quintet. ~ MORE...

Dr. Michael Jacobson
Professor of Saxophone
Acting Associate Dean

Dr. JACOBSON is Professor of Saxophone and Music Technology. He holds degrees from Arizona State University (Bachelor of Music in Theory and Composition, and BM in Jazz Performance); Indiana University (Master of Music in Saxophone Performance); and the University of Texas at Austin (Doctor of Musical Arts in Performance with a Jazz Emphasis). Indiana University also awarded him their prestigious Performer's Certificate. His classical performance has taken him all over the world and earned him grants from the National Endowment for the Arts. His CD recording of John Harbison's San Antonio, issued in 1999 on the AUR label, was a first round Grammy Award nominee in the category "Best Instrumental Solo Performance without Orchestra": ~ MORE...

Dr. Jun Qian
Assistant Professor of Clarinet

Dr. JUN QIAN, Chinese-born American clarinetist, joined the music faculty at Baylor University as the clarinet professor, and the Waco Symphony as principal clarinetist, in 2012. He is also an endorsing artist for Paris-based Selmer Company. From 2007 to 2012, he was the clarinet professor at St. Olaf College in Minnesota. Previously, Qian was a member of the clarinet faculty at Nazareth College, Houghton College, and New York State University at Fredonia. He has also taught music theory at Eastman School of Music and chamber music at Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and he has performed as the principal clarinetist of the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra in China.

Dr. Ann Shoemaker
Assistant Professor of Bassoon

Bassoonist ANN SHOEMAKER is well known for her varied career as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player, and educator. As a soloist, she has been featured with the InterHarmony Music Festival orchestra, the Carolina Youth Symphony, and as a concerto competition winner at the Colorado College Summer Music Festival and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and has given guest solo recitals at Wichita State University and the University of Georgia.
