Students seeking acceptance into a Brass studio should follow these steps:
Complete a Request to Audition form to audition on one of the scheduled audition dates
Begin the application process to Baylor University
Contact the applied faculty directly if you are unable to attend any of the scheduled audition dates and we will set up a private audition. Many students prefer to visit Baylor during school hours. You may be allowed to sit in on a rehearsal or attend a studio class if requested.
Consider taking a lesson with the brass faculty before your scheduled audition - this will give you the opportunity to ask more specific questions and get a feel of how he teaches.
Students must prepare one solo work (preferably other than that prepared for the UIL-TSSEC) and a contrasting etude (preferably other than those prepared for the All State auditions), all major scales in 2 octaves, and be prepared to sight-read at the audition.
In addition, those wishing to enter the B.M. in Performance degree program must prepare 3 - 5 contrasting orchestral excerpts from the standard repertoire.
Graduate Student Auditions
Graduate students should contact the appropriate brass faculty to set up an audition date and time. The repertoire will consist of solo work, orchestral excerpts and sight-reading.
