Baylor Professor to Speak at Faculty Luncheon Sept. 27

Dr. Charles A. Weaver, associate professor of psychology at Baylor University, will speak on "Things Remembered: A Brief Look at Memory, Theory and Application" at noon Wednesday, Sept. 27, in the Barfield Drawing Room of the Bill Daniel Student Center.
During his lecture, Weaver will examine the misconceptions our society has about the mind.
"There is the incorrect notion that things are stored in our minds that are not," Weaver said. "Memory is not like a videotape that you can play back. We fill in gaps, and are prone to all kinds of distortions. It can also be improved, and I plan to speak on techniques for better memory."
Weaver completed his undergraduate degree at Baylor in 1984 and received his doctorate from the University of Colorado in 1988. After a year of teaching in Colorado, he returned to Baylor in 1989. He teaches upper level psychology courses.
In addition to his position at Baylor, Weaver gives lectures on the mind and memory to churches and other groups. He has also published articles in such periodicals as The False Memory Syndrome Foundation Newsletter.
