Texas Quilters Display Contemporary Quilts at Baylor University

Seven Texas quilters will show their contemporary quilts Tuesday, Oct. 20, through Saturday, Nov. 14, at Martin Museum of Art at Baylor University.
The quilters, whose work will be featured in the Baylor Contemporary Quilt Invitational, create their own fabrics and sometimes use recycled textiles in their designs.
Award-winning author and quilt artist Kate Lenkowsky is known for her quilt Call to Service, which depicts volunteers serving their communities. It hangs in the entry of the headquarters of the Corporation for National and Community Service in Washington, D.C.
Lenkowsky will speak at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29. Her topic will be "That's a Quilt? Tracing the Lineage of Contemporary Quilt Art."
The quilters who will display their work are Ann Adams, Liz Axford, Sue Benner, Jack Brockette, Jane Dunnewold, Susie Monday and Connie Scheele.
The quilts will be shown in the museum's Gallery II.
Also on exhibit will be the works of ceramic sculptor Yih-Wen Kuo. His pots, usually geometric and minimalist, will be shown in Gallery I. He is an associate professor at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Ill.
Martin Museum of Art is in Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center, 60 Baylor Ave. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays.
