April 9, 2002

by Nicole L. Anderson, Student Newswriter

Baylor University faculty, staff and students will celebrate the annual "Diadeloso" on Thursday, April 11. Baylor has observed this traditional spring "play day" since 1934. The student body voted in 1966 to name the tradition "Dia Del Oso," which translates "day of the bear."
Diadeloso is sponsored by the Baylor Chamber of Commerce and will feature tournaments, booths and activities and live entertainment. Students can participate in a variety of sports activities, including 3 on 3 basketball, tug-of-war, flag football, home run derby, a 5-K fun run and many other events.
Live entertainment will begin at 11 a.m. A fraternity and sorority step show, the James Joyce Band, the Latin Dance Society and the Student Government Scholar bowl also will take place. The band Switchfoot will conclude the music performances at 8 p.m.
"Lights Out", a fireworks display, will be held at 9 p.m. at the Intramural Fields. The fireworks will be followed by a showing of the film Pearl Harbor.
