Baylor Names Press Area for Dave Campbell

July 21, 1999

Baylor University honored a college football legend on Wednesday with the naming of the Dave Campbell Media Center in the new Floyd Casey Stadium press box.
Campbell, the editor of Dave Campbell's Baylor Bear Insider Report, a publication of the Bear Foundation, and the founder of Dave Campbell's Texas Football, the bible of Texas college and high school football for more than three decades, is a former president of the Football Writers Association of America and a member of the boards of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame and the Heisman Trophy. He is also a former sports editor of the Waco Tribune-Herald.
Baylor is completing construction on a new press box for Floyd Casey Stadium which will include a new media area and 36 luxury suites. The media work area will be named for Campbell, who has covered Baylor football for half a century.
"There could be no more appropriate name for the media area at Floyd Casey Stadium than one which honors Dave Campbell," Stanton said. "Through the generous contributions of Bernard and Audre Rapoport, the media and other friends, we are expressing today our recognition of the contributions to Texas football and college football as a whole and sports journalism by Dave Campbell. We also show our pride in the fact that he has been so closely associated with Baylor athletics."
The Dave Campbell Media Center will be dedicated during Baylor's home opener on Sept. 11 versus UNLV.
