Baylor Theatre To Present 'Steel Magnolias' June 28-July 1

June 20, 2001

Baylor Theatre will present Robert Harling's classic Southern play "Steel Magnolias" June 28 to July 1 in Theater 11 at the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center on the Baylor University campus. Curtain times are 7:30 p.m. June 28-30 with a matinee performance scheduled for 2:30 p.m. July 1.
"I think "Steel Magnolias" is a humorous play, but it also reminds us of the value of friendship, and that those friends can come from different generations," said Fran Lumbard, a graduate student who is director of the Baylor production.
Based on a true story, the comedy/drama is set in a small Louisiana beauty shop and focuses on the lives of five women. Harling based the story on the life and death of his sister, the character Shelby in the play.
Cast members for the Baylor production include Monica McFerrin as Truvy Jones, Allison Tolman as Annelle Dupuy-DeSoto, Betsy McCann as Clairee Belcher, Mindy Madison as M'Lynn Eatenton, Allison Shaw as Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie and Amber Werley as Ouiser Boudreaux.
Tickets are $8 and can be purchased at the Baylor Theatre Box Office. For more information, call 710-1861.
