Classics Department To Sponsor Lecture At Baylor April 4March 27, 2001
The classics department of Baylor University will sponsor a lecture at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, in the White Beckham Room of the Bill Daniel Student Center, featuring Dr. Olof Brandt of the Swedish Institute for Classical Studies in Rome, who will speak on "A Case Study in Early Christian Baptism: Archaelogy and the Baptistry of San Lorenzo in Lucina."
Brandt received a bachelor's of art degree in classical archaeology at the University of Uppsala, Sweden, and a doctorate in Christian archaeology at the Pontificio Instituto di Archeologia Cristiana in Rome. His research concentrates on the architecture and archaeology of early Christian baptisteries, especially in Rome. Since 1993, the Swedish Institute for Classical Studies in Rome has studied the baptistery and other aspects of the church San Lorenzo in Lucina. Brandt led excavations in 1993, 1995 and 1998, and presently leads an interdisciplinary project about San Lorenzo.
Brandt is the author of scientific articles in several publications and has served as lecturer for international congresses.
