A memorial service for Baylor University nursing student Amy Chesnutt, who died in an automobile accident on June 8, will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 31 in the student lounge of Baylor's Louise Herrington School of Nursing, 3700 Worth Street in Dallas.
Steve Chisolm, director of student ministries at the nursing school, and Dr. Todd Lake, dean of chapel and chaplain to the university community, will participate in the ceremony. A memorial fountain located in a garden on the nursing school campus will be dedicated during the service. The fountain was purchased by donations from students, faculty and staff given in Chesnutt's memory.
Chesnutt, who was a Houston senior, was scheduled to graduate in December. The nursing school will present a posthumous bachelor of science in nursing degree to her family during fall commencement ceremonies on Dec. 16.
Chisolm said Chesnutt had planned to work with children when she finished school. He said the memorial service is something the campus needs.
"The greatest impact is that you realize you've lost an infectious smile that always greeted everyone," he said. "Unfortunately, we're just beginning to see so many of the effects because many of our students were not here when this happened. This will give everyone the opportunity to come together to be with friends and share in this loss."
