Baylor Names 1999 Family Business Contest Winners

WACO, Texas - Texas family businesses, both large and small, are among the winners in the 10th annual Outstanding Family Business Awards competition sponsored by Baylor University's Institute for Family Business.
More than 100 businesses across the Lone Star State were nominated for the competition, which honors top firms demonstrating strong business and family values. Judges include family business consultants, advisers and principals of family firms.
This year's award winners are: Small family business (50 or fewer employees)-J-B Weld Company, Sulphur Springs; medium family business (51-250 employees)-AGUIRRE Corporation, Dallas; large family business (more than 250 employees)-Cavender's Boot City, Tyler; community commitment award-Shirley Floral Company, San Angelo; family values award-Branch-Smith, Inc., Fort Worth; fastest growing award-Link Staffing Services, Inc., Houston; founders award-Smith Gardentown, Inc., Wichita Falls; and well-managed award-G.R. Birdwell Construction, Inc./Remedial Construction Services, Inc., Houston.
Finalists in the competition included: Brook Mays Music Company, Dallas; The El Paso Chile Company, El Paso; Full Color, Inc., Dallas; Grant Sales, Inc., Plano; Guido Brothers Construction Company, San Antonio; Muenster Telephone Corporation of Texas, Muenster; O'Reilly Corporation dba McDonald's Restaurants, Plano; Russell-Newman, Inc., Denton; Sivalls, Inc., Odessa; The WALK THE TALK Company, Dallas; Warren Electric Group, Houston; and Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, Inc., Waco.
The awards will be presented at a banquet in Austin on Oct. 14.
