Wind Ensemble Presents Cd Release Party on Friday

May 7, 1998

by Richard Veit

The Baylor University Wind Ensemble will be represented nationally on a new compact disc recording.
To mark the occasion, a CD release party will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Sternberg Instrumental Rehearsal Hall (Room 118) of the Glennis McCrary Music Building.
As before (in last year's CD of music by Steven Stucky), the conductor of this latest recording is Michael Haithcock, professor of conducting and director of bands. The new CD on the Arsis label presents music of composer Daron Aric Hagen, a professor at the Curtis Institute of Music and at Bard College who served two brief residencies at Baylor University last fall.
Performing as soloist in Hagen's Flugelhorn Concerto is Vern Sielert, Baylor's director of jazz ensembles. The guest soloist in the Cello Concerto is Robert La Rue. Both performed in those same capacities during live concerts at Baylor in October and November, respectively.
The compact disc also contains Night, Again (composed in 1997) and Sennets, Cortège, and Tuckets (1989).
The CD release party is open to the public.
