The Journal of Blacks in Higher Education: Baylor University Honors Its First Black Graduate Student in Religion

The department of religion has established the Robert L. Gilbert Scholar in Religion Graduate Stipend in honor of the late Rev. Robert L. Gilbert, the first African American to enroll in Baylor’s graduate program in the department of religion. James Nogalski, Ph.D., director of graduate studies in religion, shares the motivation behind the establishment of the stipend and hopes for the future.
