WACO, Texas (March 17, 2019) – Baylor University’s Mayborn Museum will host “Very Hungry Caterpillar Day” – also known as World Storytelling Day – on Wednesday, March 20, in honor of its newest Eric Carle exhibit, called Very Eric Carle: A Very Hungry, Quiet, Lonely, Clumsy, Busy Exhibit.

“This date (March 20) is significant because not only is it a global celebration of storytelling as an art form, it comes at the perfect time that we are hosting a new, dynamic exhibit that displays the colorful works of Eric Carle,” said Charles Walter, director of the Mayborn Museum. “Carle has given us some of the most iconic children book characters such as The Hungry Caterpillar series. This was just too good of a chance to pass up.”

Walter said during this event, visitors would be invited to enjoy a fun “scavenger hunt” throughout the Mayborn Museum and current Eric Carle exhibit.

A special gift will be offered to the first 250 children who participate in the scavenger hunt. The exhibit, which runs through May 12, is the first North American traveling exhibit for children inspired by the beloved children’s book author and illustrator’s published work. This play-and-learn exhibit will allow visitors to step into the pages of Eric Carle’s colorful picture books.

Very Eric Carle: A Very Hungry, Quiet, Lonely, Clumsy, Busy Exhibit was co-organized by Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh and The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, Massachusetts, and will be on display at the Mayborn Museum from January 26 to May 12 and then continue its multi-year tour as a traveling exhibit.

Entry into the exhibit will be included with general museum admission. Ticket prices are free for Baylor students and members, while tickets for non-members are $8 for adults, $6 for children ages 2-12 and $7 for seniors.

Renowned author and illustrator of more than 70 books, Eric Carle is known for his classic “Very” series, including the 1969 classic The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The “Very” series of books are illustrated in his hand-painted tissue paper collage technique and introduces five special insects who each take journeys of discovery.
