Baylor University Homecoming Weekend Events Set For Nov. 1-3

Baylor University will host several special events from Thursday, Nov. 1, through Saturday, Nov. 3, to celebrate Homecoming.

WACO, Texas (Oct. 31, 2018) – The Baylor University Family will come together for the University’s 109th anniversary Homecoming celebration from Thursday, Nov. 1, through Saturday, Nov. 3. Below is information about special Homecoming events and traditions.

Thursday, Nov. 1

Mass Meeting – Baylor’s Homecoming will begin at 10:30 p.m. in the Ferrell Center with the annual Freshman Mass Meeting that honors the memory of 10 Baylor students who died in a bus accident on Jan. 27, 1927, in Round Rock, Texas. The Immortal Ten are alphabetically presented as their story is told during what has become a hallowed tradition, collectively symbolizing the Baylor spirit made visible in the concluding candle-lighting ceremony. The Mass Meeting will end at 11:30 p.m., and students will progress towards Fountain Mall to build the bonfire.

Pigskin Revue – This Homecoming tradition highlights the winning Broadway-style acts performed by campus organizations from the previous spring’s All University Sing competition. The performance will begin at 7 p.m. in Waco Hall, 624 Speight Ave. For more information, visit the Baylor student activities website.

Queen and Her Court – One of the highlights of Baylor’s Homecoming festivities is the crowning of the Homecoming Queen. During the 7 p.m. performance of Pigskin Revue, the Homecoming Queen and her Court will be announced.

Friday, Nov. 2

50th Reunion Dinner – Alumni of 1968 will return to reminisce and reconnect at a class reunion dinner hosted by the Baylor Alumni Network. Dinner will served from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Barfield Drawing Room of the Bill Daniel Student Center, 1311 S. Fifth St. For more information, visit the Baylor Homecoming website.

Heritage Club Reunion Dinner – The Baylor Alumni Network will host the annual Heritage Reunion Dinner for the classes of 1963, 1958, 1953, 1948 and 1943, in the Baylor Club at McLane Stadium, 1001 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. For more information, visit Baylor Homecoming website.

Extravaganza, Pep Rally and Bonfire – The Baylor Family and local community are welcome to be a part of festivities at Fountain Mall and on Fifth Street to celebrate Homecoming. Starting at 6 p.m., local food trucks, including Xristos, The Mix, Steel City Pops, Chick-Fil-A, Vitek’s, Club Sandwich and Pokey O’s, will open for dinner. From 6 to 9 p.m., Friday Night Flashback will take place in the Bill Daniel Student Center, highlighting Baylor’s history and traditions with displays from the Mayborn Museum and the Chamber collection. Family Fun on Fifth Street will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. and will include a magician show at 6:15 p.m. and a performance by Baylor’s Guerrilla Improv Comedy Troupe at 7:15 p.m. The pep rally will get underway at 8:45 p.m., and the bonfire and laser show will begin at 9:45 p.m.

Singspiration – Come together with members of the Baylor Family and Waco community to celebrate Homecoming with Singspiration, a worship service at 7 p.m. at Seventh & James Baptist Church, 602 James Ave., accompanied by members of the Baylor Symphony Orchestra. Singspiration also will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Baylor Religious Hour (BRH) Choir, with an alumni choir singing songs that have carried significant meaning to the group through the years. Saturday, Nov. 3

Homecoming Parade – The Homecoming Parade started in 1909 and is believed to be the oldest and largest homecoming parade in the country. The parade will begin at 7 a.m. in downtown Waco at Eighth Street and Austin Avenue and is expected to arrive on campus on Fifth Street at 7:30 a.m. The parade will feature around 200 entries, including 10 student-built parade floats and 11 giant balloons. Baylor and KCEN-TV Ch. 6 will team up to broadcast the parade with live coverage from 7:30 to 9 a.m. from Fifth Street on the Baylor campus. Football Game – The Baylor Bears will host Oklahoma State for the annual Homecoming football game at 11 a.m. in McLane Stadium, 1001 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Tickets are available at bthere.baylorbears.com.
