Baylor Hosts Theologian Russell Moore for Lecture on Evangelical Cultural Engagement

WACO, Texas (Aug. 31, 2017) - Baylor’s Institute for Studies of Religion will host a lecture featuring Russell Moore, Ph.D., on Tuesday Sept. 5, 2017, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in Waco Hall.

Moore’s lecture, "Is There a Future for Evangelical Cultural Engagement?”, will examine the adjustments Christians must make in the midst of a world that is undergoing many political changes. He will touch on how Christians can use their faith to influence the community without being self-righteous or tainting Scripture.

“His topic is vitally important because American Christians need to think carefully about how to have political influence without making politics the center of their faith,” said Thomas Kidd, Ph.D., associate director of the Institute for Studies of Religion.

Moore is president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention and the moral and public policy agency of the nation’s largest Protestant denomination. He was chosen because of his extensive knowledge of Evangelical history and modern application of his knowledge, Kidd said.

“Russell Moore is one of the most winsome and intelligent Christian voices in the midst of today’s fractured, acrimonious political environment,” Kidd said. “The Institute for Studies of Religion is delighted that Baylor and the Waco community will have the opportunity to learn from Dr. Moore about how Christians can most effectively influence our increasingly post-Christian culture.”
