February 10, 1997

WACO, Texas -- Dr. John R.W. Stott, a former chaplain to the Queen of England, will speak at Baylor University on Wednesday, Feb. 12, for the Effective Preachers program.
Stott will speak to Baylor students at 10 a.m. during Chapel-Forum and at 7 p.m. in Waco Hall. The public also is invited to the 7 p.m. service.
Stott served as a chaplain to the Queen from 1959-91 and currently serves as an extra chaplain. Serving as rector of All Souls Church in London from 1950-75, he is now rector emeritus of the church.
Stott was named director of the London Institute of Contemporary Christianity in 1982 and was named president of the organization in 1986. He is the author of 34 books, including The Contemporary Christian, The Cross of Christ and The Authentic Jesus. He has performed mission work all over the world, particularly in third world countries.
In February 1996, Baylor named 12 individuals as the most effective preachers in the English-speaking world, according to a worldwide survey.
Many of the 12 preachers plan to visit Baylor to deliver sermons during the 1996-97 academic year and to receive the newly created "Baylor Great Preachers" award. Included in the great preachers list are the Rev. Billy Graham and Dr. Charles Swindoll.
