WACO, Texas (Nov. 21, 2014) –Baylor University alumnus George Chandler, B.A. ’60, J.D. ’62, recently received the title of Texas Legal Legend, a high honor given by the Litigation Section of the State Bar of Texas.
Chandler, who has been a trial lawyer for more than five decades, was recognized by the Baylor Law School on Nov. 17 to celebrate the achievement.
“George has, in his life and in his career, set a mark that provides each of us with aspirational
goals of the loftiest sort,” said Brad Toben, J.D.,dean of the Baylor Law School and M.C. & Mattie Caston Chair of Law. “For George, his work is about reaching out to serve others in the courtroom and in the profession, a profession in which he has been a consistent and strong voice of leadership.”
After his graduation from Baylor Law School in 1962, Chandler began his career with Edwards & DeAnda, a personal injury firm in Corpus Christi, where he practiced until 1964. In 1971, he opened his own firm, Chandler, Mathis & Zivley, P.C., which specializes in plaintiffs’ personal injury and commercial trial law.
Chandler is a member of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association (TTLA) and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, an organization limited by invitation to 400 trial lawyers worldwide.
Five years ago, he was named Baylor Lawyer of the Year, the highest honor given by the Baylor Law Alumni Association. He is also a Jaworski Fellow at Baylor Law School, and frequently visits the campus to share his trial advocacy expertise with Practice Court students.

The objective of Texas Legal Legends is to memorialize legendary lawyers who have practiced in Texas and to enhance the importance of not only making a living in the field of law, but also making a difference.

“George has attained the pinnacle of achievement as a trial lawyer,” Toben said. “Baylor Law congratulates him for his well-deserved induction into the company of the Texas Legal Legends.”
