WACO, Texas (Aug. 28, 2013) - The beauty of worship is that there is no one way to go about doing it correctly. The guitars and drum sets that many Baylor students enjoy at local churches in Waco are certainly not the only way to experience reverence, as the brothers of the French monastery Taizé could tell you. The Taizé way of worship is powerful, peaceful and contemplative in nature.
This unique worship experience will be offered on the Baylor campus by the Office of Spiritual Life from 11:30 a.m. to noon and from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2013, in the Spiritual Life Center Chapel, 500 Speight Ave.
"We are hosting this service as a way to invite the Baylor students, staff and faculty to pause and worship our Lord," said Carlos Colón, coordinator of worship initiatives and a Resident Scholar at the Institute for Studies of Religion.
The Taizé manner of worship employs chanting as a form of expression. "The songs and Scriptures are our prayers, and our desire is to love the Lord with our whole being during this time of worship," said Colón.
Colón will be joined by University Chaplain Dr. Burt Burleson in leading the service, and senior music education major Elizabeth Hebert will provide music on the oboe.
