April 9, 1996

"International Diadeloso" will be the theme for Baylor University's annual Diadeloso celebration Thursday, April 18.

Diadeloso, Spanish for "Day of the Bear," is a campus recreation day for students and faculty, with no classes scheduled.

The celebration will begin with a concert from 8 p.m. to midnight Wednesday, April 17, at the Waco suspension bridge. The band The Pictures will perform. Admission is $5 in advance and $7 at the gate. At 8 a.m. Thursday, a 5-km fun run will kick off "Day of the Bear." A free all-university dance and block party will take place that evening from 8 p.m. to midnight on Fifth Street on the Baylor campus. The dance, titled "A Miracle on Fifth Street," will be the first on-campus dance in the school's 151-year history.

Additional activities include a volleyball tournament, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, taboo, doubles tennis, tug of war, golf, an ultimate Frisbee contest, racquetball, pool, sailboating, and paintball. Most activities will be held at Baylor's intramural field, located at Bagby Avenue and University Parks Drive.

Tickets and T-shirts may be purchased in campus cafeterias, the Bill Daniel Student Center, and at the Vara Martin Daniel Fountain Plaza. The shirts are $12.

Spring elections for Baylor student body and class officers and Student Congress representatives will also be held at this time.
