Baylor Rings in Winter With Christmas on Fifth

The Baylor University and Waco communities are invited to attend Baylor's annual Christmas on Fifth Street celebration beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1.

The festivities - which will take place along Fifth Street throughout the Bill Daniel Student Center (SUB), Burleson Quadrangle, Fountain Mall and Traditions Plaza - include the 46th "Christmas Tree Lighting" presented by Kappa Omega Tau, a "Christmas Marketplace," "Cocoa, Cookies and Carols" presented by the Baylor Religious Hour (BRH) Choir, "New Anthems for an Old Story" and "All Aboard the Mayborn Express."

Music performances in the Burleson Quadrangle, located by Burleson Hall at 1419 S. Fifth St., will begin at 7:30 p.m. with the Kappa Pickers, followed by the music group Nelo at 8 p.m. The Christmas tree lighting ceremony will take place at 8:45 p.m., and country artist Aaron Watson will begin performing at 9 p.m.

"Cocoa, Cookies and Carols," a performance of classic Christmas music by the BRH Choir, will be held at 6:45 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. in Barfield Drawing Room on the second floor of the SUB.

Artists from Baylor's Uproar Records will sing their favorite Christmas songs with coffee and cocoa for guests from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Marketplace tent located on Fountain Mall in the center of Baylor's campus.

Carriage rides, a petting zoo, a live nativity, pictures with Santa and classic family portraits will also be available for students and families.

The carriage rides and the Christmas Marketplace will be located on Fountain Mall. The live nativity will be located outside the SUB, 1311 S. Fifth St., and pony rides and the petting zoo will be offered on the Traditions Plaza next to the SUB.

Pictures with Santa, family portraits, cookie decorating and letters to Santa will be available on the second floor of the Bill Daniel Student Center.

A series of movies also will be shown in the SUB Den, including "Mickey's Christmas Carol" at 6 p.m., "The Muppet Christmas Carol" at 6:30 p.m. and "The Polar Express" at 8 p.m.

The event is hosted by the Baylor Activities Council, Department of Student Activities, Kappa Omega Tau Fraternity, BRH Choir and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
