Column by Shehan Jeyarajah of the “Dallas Morning News” focuses on Baylor’s McLane Stadium and the impact it will have on students, athletic recruitment and the community. The $266-million, 45,000 seat, on-campus stadium is situated prominently on I-35 and will provide easy access for players, students and spectators. McLane Stadium will feature free Wi-Fi access and 16 boat slips for “sailgating.” The stadium is scheduled to open for the Bears season opener on Aug. 31.

Community leaders last week dedicated the new “signature bridges” on Interstate 35 over the Brazos River that complement the city’s riverfront development, including Baylor’s new $260 million McLane Stadium opening in August. The Waco bridge, which already is being studied as a model for bridges in Texas and other states, also will have a state-of-the-art LED lighting system that can be customized for special occasions, such as changing to green and yellow on a Baylor game day.
