Significant Travel Delays Expected This Weekend as TxDOT Opens Newly Reconstructed Mainlanes

April 9, 2021

WACO, Texas (April 9, 2021) - TxDOT plans to shift all I-35 northbound mainlane traffic to the newly reconstructed lanes from BUS 77 north of McLane Stadium to N Loop 340 with work expected to begin at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 10, and be complete by 10 a.m. Monday, April 12.

Significant travel delays through Waco are expected throughout the weekend, and drivers are strongly encouraged to use Loop 340 to avoid construction zones. Plan ahead and visit waco4bmap.org for real-time traffic and pedestrian crossing information on I-35.

To prepare for the shift, TxDOT will:

  • Close the northbound BUS 77 exit ramp (Exit 337) at 5 p.m. Friday, April 9. TxDOT will implement additional closures at various times throughout the weekend to perform the shift.
  • Close the northbound frontage road intersection at MLK Boulevard and all northbound entrance and exit ramps from MLK Boulevard north to Meyers Lane.
  • Close the northbound I-35 mainlane from BUS 77 to N Loop 340.

Schedules are dependent on weather, field conditions and work progress. Follow TxDOT on Twitter @TxDOTWaco for the most current updates on construction activities and lane closures.

Later this month, TxDOT and transportation agencies throughout the nation will recognize National Work Zone Awareness Week. TxDOT reminds motorists to make driving safely a priority when passing through the state's more than 3,400 active work zones. When driving through work zones, slow down, stay alert, and put the phone away. Be Safe. Drive Smart.
