Gone to Texas

The Mayborn Museum presents a new exhibit, "Going to Texas: Five Centuries of Texas Maps," on display in the exhibit hallway next to the SBC Theater, July 3 through August 14, 2008.

Watch Texas history unfold in this fascinating exhibit of historic Texas maps. The maps range from 1548 to 2006 and cover a wide span of Texas and U.S. history, from the Louisiana Purchase to modern railroads and interstates.

The exhibit, entitled "Going to Texas: Five Centuries of Texas Maps," was produced through a collaboration between TCU's Center for Texas Studies in Fort Worth and the Museum of the Big Bend at Sul Ross State University in Alpine. The maps are selections from the Yana & Marty Davis Collection, which was donated to the Museum of the Big Bend in 2006.

"Going to Texas" is on display in conjunction with the Mayborn Museum's summer traveling exhibition, National Geographic MAPS: Tools for Adventure, which will run through September 7, 2008.
