Junior Duck Stamp Art

Duck Stamp Art The Mayborn Museum Complex is proud to be one of the locations across the state to host the Junior Duck Stamp Art "Best of Show" exhibit! This exhibit showcases winning entries from submissions from throughout Texas to take part in this important nation-wide contest. You will be astonished to see what these talented students produce using their knowledge gained from the Federal Junior Duck Stamp Conservation and Design Program.

This exhibit will be on display in the 2nd floor rotunda of the Discovery Center and will run through October 26, 2008.

In recent years, participation in the Junior Duck Stamp contest has increased to over 27,000 students nationwide. Students participating in the JDS program are eligible to submit their artwork to their state or territory contest. Entrants are encouraged to include a conservation message in their artwork that explains what they have learned about wetlands habitat, conservation, or waterfowl and perhaps encourages others to participate in conservation. Entries to the state competition are judged and first, second, and third place winners are selected in each of four age groups. From these winners, an overall "Best of Show" is chosen. The "Best of Show" from each state and territory is then entered into the national competition where the top entry is selected to become the Junior Duck Stamp for the following year. The stamp is sold by the U.S. Postal Service with proceeds supporting conservation education and providing awards and scholarships for the students, teachers, and schools that participate in the JDS program. Entrance to the exhibit is included with price of admission!
