From March 25th to April 16th the Martin Museum of Art will host the annual Art Student and Studio Faculty Exhibition. Student artwork will be juried by Bill Wiman, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Art at The University of Texas at Austin and an elected member of the Academy of Distinguished Teachers at The University of Texas.
Wiman has been included in over ninety exhibitions in the United States including twenty-two solo exhibitions. His work is represented in seventeen public collections including the Butler Institute of American Art, the San Antonio Museum of Art, the McNay Art Institute, and the Oklahoma Art Center.
Wiman will select approximately 75 works from an average pool of 200 entries. "Whether a student's work is accepted or not, we hope the students will see the jury process as a valuable experience that is an important part of their art education" said Karin Gilliam, director of the museum, "It is also a wonderful opportunity for our community to purchase artwork and encourage our students". A reception and awards ceremony will be held on March 25th, from 6:30-8:30pm. The public is cordially invited.
In addition, Gallery II will contain original works of art created by the studio art faculty in a wide range of media. "The art students also benefit from seeing the most recent artwork created by their studio professors" Gilliam said. "The faculty exhibition is a stimulating environment for discussion. The students always come away with additional insight and respect for their professors."
The Martin Museum of Art is located in the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center on the Baylor University campus. Hours are 10-5 Tuesday through Friday, and 12-5pm on Saturday. The museum is closed during university holidays. Admission is free and all events are open to the public, unless specified.
