What is IM and how does it work?
IM stands for "Instant Messaging," and refers to a form of real-time online communication.
To IM a librarian, all you have to do is add our username to your buddy list. We have accounts on AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, Windows Live Messenger, and Gtalk. (See list to the right for account information.)
I don't have access to my IM account, what can I do?
If you are on a computer which doesn't have IM software installed, you can IM a librarian through any number of web-based IM clients.

Who can use the IM service?
This service is intended primarily for current students, faculty and staff of Baylor University. We will also answer questions about Baylor-specific resources as time allows.
What hours are you available?
The IM reference service is available during the Central Libraries' regular hours.

Yes, you can contact the Crouch Fine Arts Library at bufalibrary on AIM, Yahoo! Messenger, Windows Live Messenger and Gtalk.
What kinds of questions can I ask?
We can answer your library and research-related questions via IM. We feel that IM is particularly well-suited to getting help with online resources. However, if you need more extensive research assistance we may ask you to continue your questions in-person at the information desk.
Will my chat transcript be saved?
Yes, IM chat transcripts will be saved for quality control and statistical purposes. We will make every effort to protect your privacy.
