Scope and Content

Group 1 Media. This portion of the collection is specifically designated for media: newspapers, newspaper clippings, recorded media, and publications including newsletters, articles, books, and magazines.. Recorded media include cassettes, vinyl and metal recordings, computer tapes, " and '" video tapes, slides, 35mm films and reel-to-reel tapes. All of the '" video tapes have been converted to DVD. Many of the publications have been cataloged. The materials in this group span the years from some early 1890s newspapers to the present.

Group 2 Personal. These papers include the materials that are personal in nature. Whether biographical information, photographs, events that Jack Hightower attended, or awards he received, the materials in this group span the career of Hightower from 1926 to the present.

Group 3 Texas Government. The material found within this group documents Texas government in general and Jack Hightower's involvement with Texas government in particular. Examples of topics are the governors of the state, departments of the state, and the Texas Constitutional Convention. Information found here also deals with Hightower's time as a member of the Texas House of Representatives, a Texas State Senator, the Assistant Texas Attorney General, and as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Texas. Inclusive dates are from 1953 to 1996.

Group 4 U.S. Government. This group of the Papers is devoted to the federal government involving Jack Hightower and are general in nature. Examples of materials within this group, are correspondence series, Executive Branch, U.S. House, U.S. Senate, and General Subjects. All of the collected materials from Jack Hightower's service in the U.S. House of Representatives are included in this group from 1975-1985.

Group 5 Campaigns. The campaign materials that the Hightower Papers contain cover all of the offices that Hightower ran for. Paper items such as stickers, posters, and bumper stickers are some of the various forms of materials found here. Hightower campaign sound and video materials are located in the Media Group. Campaign materials for other politicians have been relocated to the Vertical Files Group. The dates covered in this Campaign Group are 1953-1992.

Group 6 Lincoln Collection. The Lincoln Collection reflects Jack Hightower's passionate interest in this national figure. Materials include books, articles, other publications, and 3-D items.

Group 7 Mason Files.The Mason Files includes material from the time Jack Hightower joined the A.F & .A.M. (Ancient Free & Accepted Masons) Scottish Rite Order in 1951 unto the present time. Such items as rite manuals, articles about the Masons, 3-D items, and pieces of regalia are part of this collection.
