About the Collection

The Robert F. Darden Cartoon Collection currently consists of 39 original editorial cartoons drawn by 14 cartoonists. Sixteen were drawn by Bob Dale of the San Antonio Express-News. Eleven of these are from 1979, while five are undated but probably drawn close to the same time.

The remaining 22 original cartoons were drawn by:
James Dobbins (Boston Times Herald)
Robert Darden (Waco Tribune-Herald)
Rudy Dreadholy
Herc Ficklen (Dallas News)
Jack Hamm
Woodi Ishmael (AP News features)
Frank Lanning (Providence Journal Company)
Sam Nash (Tyler Courier-Times)
Charles Ramsay
John Riedell (Peoria Journal Star)
Vic Runtz (Bangor Daily News)
Vaughn Shoemaker (New York Herald Tribune)
Bruce Stark (NY Daily News).

The oldest cartoon is a Nash editorial from the 1940's. The bulk of the collection is from the 1970's, although quite a few are undated.

The subjects of the cartoons range from local, national to international issues and are arranged alphabetically by the artists' last name.
