The Texas Collection is hosting a workshop today for the Society of American Archivists entitled Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS).
Twenty-two members of the SAA from across Texas and around the nation will gather on Baylor University's campus to gain an "in-depth, practical consideration of the key concepts and descriptive elements in Describing Archives: A Content Standard, the U.S. standard," according to the workshop description.
The session is led by Jaqueline Dean, the Manuscripts Processing Coordinator at The Louis Round Special Collections Library at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dean currently serves on SAA's Technical Subcommittee on Describing Archives: A Content Standard (TC-DACS) and teaches archival description at the School of Information and Library Science at UNC-Chapel Hill.
"We are delighted to partner with the Society of American Archivists to sponsor this DACS workshop," said John Wilson, Director of The Texas Collection. "This is an opportunity for us to provide a convenient, central location so other archivists can improve their technical expertise in describing and processing archival collections."
