Baylor University Libraries present "Where Dreams Die Hard: An Exploration of Six-Man Football in Texas," an exhibit in conjunction with One Book, One Waco for Fall 2012.
This year's One Book, One Waco selection, Where Dreams Die Hard: A Small American Town and Its Six-Man Football Team, by Carlton Stowers looks at Penelope, Texas, where the six-man team seeks its second win in four years following a 37-year football hiatus. The story goes beyond the game as it examines small-town culture and how a community unites and rallies behind the team.
The exhibit features Stowers' other works, as well as Penelope High School memorabilia, including a letterman jacket, jerseys, and game ball from the era. Well-known six-man coaches and players, such as Jack Pardee and C.H. Underwood, as well as Baylor athletes like Knox Pittard and Casey Cooper, are also highlighted. Items reflecting the history of the sport and information about various Waco-area teams round out the exhibit.
"Where Dreams Die Hard" is on display through October 25, 2012 in the Goodpasture Concourse of Moody Memorial Library.
