Lockers and Carrels

Lockers

Eligibility

Due to a limited supply of lockers, only graduate students and Honors Program undergraduates are eligible for lockers. Honors students must contact the Honors College for instructions.

Application

The Facilities Coordinator, located in ML-112 on the first floor of Moody Memorial Library, assigns lockers to graduate students on a first-come, first-served basis. Use the online Library Locker Application to send your locker reservation request. If demand exceeds our available supply, we maintain a waiting list to help us assign lockers fairly.

As lockers become available, applicants on the waiting list are contacted in order by e-mail sent to their Baylor accounts. Locker assignments must be accepted in person at the Main Circulation Desk (first floor of Moody Library) within two weeks of notification. An applicant who fails to claim the lockers by the deadline forfeit his or her turn and the locker will be offered to the next person named on the waiting list.

Assignment and Renewal

Locker assignments are limited in length and vary according to student status; see the table below. It is important, therefore, to plan ahead and request a locker for the period when its use will be most beneficial.

Usage Terms Master's Students Doctoral Students
Loan Period 1 semester 1 semester
Maximum loan length 1 academic year (fall,spring,1 summer) with formal renewal each term 2 academic years (2 fall, 2 spring, 2 summer) with formal renewal each term

If you fail to renew your locker as instructed, it will be cleared, the combination will be changed, and the locker will be made available to the next person on the waiting list. Any personal items cleared from lockers will be held in the Access Services unit for a maximum of two weeks. . Unclaimed items after that time will be disposed of as appropriate.

Locker Use Policy - Library Materials

Library materials kept in lockers must be properly checked out. Lockers are monitored weekly by library staff. Library materials which are not properly checked out will be removed. Journals, reference books, and other non-circulating materials may not be left in lockers. If any of these items are found, they will be removed.

Disregard for this policy will result in the permanent loss of locker privileges.

Study Carrels

The Libraries provide three types of carrels: quiet study, day-use, and semester-use.

Quiet Study carrels. These carrels, located on the second and third floors of Moody Library, are identifiable by green signs on the doors. These rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis to everyone. Please do not leave any materials or personal items in these carrels as they cannot be locked.

Day-Use carrels. These carrels, located on the second floor of Moody Library, may be checked out by Baylor faculty, staff, and students (excluding Law and Nursing) for use by the day. Request a carrel key at the Main Circulation Desk on the first floor of Moody Library. The key is due back to the Main Circulation Desk 15 minutes before the stacks close. Late keys will result in a substantial fine, and clients who fail to return a key will be charged for re-keying the lock. These rooms may not be reserved.
