Lockers
Eligibility
We have a limited
supply of lockers. Therefore, at this time only graduate students are eligible
for lockers.
Application
Personnel in Access Services, located on the first floor of
Moody Memorial Library, assign lockers. Submit a Library Locker
Application if you wish to reserve a locker. Due to the limited number of lockers
available, we maintain a waiting list to help us assign lockers fairly.
When a locker becomes available, the applicant next on the
waiting list is notified by e-mail and given two weeks to accept the assignment
by coming in person to pick up the locker number and combination. If the locker
is not claimed by the deadline, it will be assigned to the next person named on
the waiting list.
Assignment and Renewal
Lockers are assigned to graduate students for a period of
one semester. Lockers may be renewed, but the number of renewals is limited.
Masters students may have a locker for a maximum of one academic year (one fall
term, one spring term, and one summer term). Doctoral students may have a locker
for a maximum of two academic years (two fall terms, two spring terms, and two
summer terms). It is important, therefore, to plan ahead and request a locker
for the period when its use will be most beneficial.
Renewal notices are automatically distributed via email. If
a locker is not formally renewed, the locker will be cleared, the combination
will be changed, and the locker will be made available to the next person on
the waiting list. Any items cleared from lockers by staff will be held a
maximum of two weeks, at which time the items will be disposed of.
Locker Use Policy - Library Materials
Library materials kept in lockers must be properly checked
out. Lockers are monitored weekly by library staff. Library materials which are
not properly checked out will be removed. Journals, reference books, and other
non-circulating materials may not be left in lockers. If any of these items are
found, they will be removed.
Disregard for this policy will result in the permanent
loss of locker privileges.
Study Carrels
The Libraries
provide three types of carrels: quiet study, day-use, and semester-use.
Quiet
Study carrels. These carrels, located
on the second and third floors of Moody Library, are identifiable by green
signs on the doors. These rooms are available on a first-come, first-served
basis to everyone. Please do not leave any materials or personal items in these
carrels as they cannot be locked.
Day-Use
carrels. These carrels, located on
the second floor of Moody Library, may be checked out by anyone for use by the
day. Request a carrel key at the Main Circulation Desk on the first floor of
Moody Library. The key is due back to the Main Circulation Desk 15 minutes
before the stacks close. Late keys will result in a substantial fine, and
clients who fail to return a key will be charged for rekeying the lock. These
rooms may not be reserved.
Semester-Use
carrels. A limited number of keyed
carrels are available to faculty, and to graduate students who have completed
the coursework for their degrees.
Faculty
A limited number of keyed carrels are available for faculty members. Faculty
may have a carrel for a maximum of two academic years. Faculty who have
exhausted their two years may request to be added to the end of the faculty
waiting list at the end of the two year period.
Graduate Students
There are a limited number of keyed carrels for graduate students. These carrels are only available to students who have completed all of their coursework. In order to use a keyed carrel a student must supply a letter from his/her department chair or committee chair indicating that all of his/her coursework (with the exception of thesis/dissertation hours) has been completed. Masters students may have a carrel for a
maximum of one academic year (one fall term, one spring term, and one summer
term). Doctoral students may have a carrel for a maximum of two academic years
(two fall terms, two spring terms, and two summer terms).
Because of the limited number of keyed study carrels, all graduate double
carrels must be shared. At no time may a student have both a keyed carrel and a
locker.

(faculty and graduate students) for a period of one semester. Carrels may be
renewed, but the number of renewals is limited (see above). It is important,
therefore, to plan ahead and request a carrel for the period when its use will
be most beneficial. Out of fairness to others, the Libraries will make NO
exceptions to these time limits.
Renewal notices are automatically
distributed via email. If a study carrel is not formally renewed or released,
fines will be assessed and the carrel will be made available to the next person
on the waiting list. Any items cleared from carrels by staff will be held a
maximum of two weeks, at which time the items will be disposed of.
Carrel Use Policy
Library Materials
Library materials kept in keyed
carrels must be properly checked out. Carrels are monitored weekly by library
staff. Library materials which are not properly checked out will be removed. Journals,
reference books, and other non-circulating materials may not be left in carrels.
If any of these items are found, they will be removed.
Furniture and Maintenance
Carrels are furnished with a
chair, desk, shelves, and a bulletin board. Library furniture from other areas
of the building may not be moved into the carrels. Smoking and eating are not
permitted in the carrels.
Security
Keyed carrels should be locked at
all times when not in use. The Baylor University Libraries assume no
responsibility for the loss of or damage to personal possessions that are kept
in closed carrels.
Disregard for this policy will
result in the permanent loss of carrel privileges.
Group Study Rooms
On the second floor of Moody Library are four large,
glassed-in group study rooms. These rooms accommodate 6 - 8 persons, and
include dry erase boards and projection screens. Computer projectors are
available for checkout in the Prichard Information Commons. Contact the
Prichard Information Commons (710-7360) to reserve the use of a group study
room.
Honors College students
Honors students obtain study carrels by contacting the
Honors Program Coordinator.
The provision of lockers and carrels are services of the Central Libraries. The policies on this page are subject to change.
