Jan. 19, 2011

Officials with the Texas Lyceum, the state's preeminent non-profit, non-partisan leadership organization, will swear in Baylor Law alumnus Dathan C. Voelter, 39, as President of the Texas Lyceum later this month in the Old Supreme Court Room of the Texas Capitol. In addition, 22 new Lyceum Directors have also been selected to join the organization aimed at identifying the next generation of Texas leaders.

Voelter is the Securities Law Director at Freescale Semiconductor in Austin. A native Texan, he grew up in Brenham and received his J.D from Baylor Law School. He is active in the American Lung Association Central Texas Chapter, The John Ben Shepperd Public Leadership Institute, Heros for Children, the Seton Forum and Cub Scout Pack 25.

Voelter leads the Texas Lyceum into the association's 31st year with an outstanding line-up of four innovative meetings across the state, including the Texas Lyceum's 25th annual public conference on the future of public pension funds, which will be held on Jan. 28 at the Austin Hilton.

"I am very proud to serve as President of the Texas Lyceum," Voelter said. "In the coming year, we will host an outstanding public conference featuring local, state and national experts who will explore the important and timely topic of public pension funds and the impact on our state."

Later this year, Texas Lyceum Directors and alumni will convene in College Station to discuss disaster preparedness; in Fort Worth to explore the impact of professional sports on the state's economy; and Corpus Christi where the topic will center on the issue of legalized gambling.

"Dathan has been laying significant groundwork for months to make the Texas Lyceum shine in 2011," said incoming "The Texas Lyceum is fortunate to have Dathan at the helm for such a substantive and important year."

The Texas Lyceum also announced that John Dickson of San Antonio was named President-Elect.

Along with hosting four conferences, the organization is scheduled to release their annual Texas Lyceum Poll this summer, name a 2011 Stewardship of Texas Values Award recipient, and award college scholarships to a group of deserving Texas high school seniors.
