A Commitment To Public Service At Baylor Law
Whether your career path leads you to the public or private sector, in business or non-profit, in whatever industry, we believe that the call to law is in essence a calling to the public. In an increasingly diverse community with increasingly divergent needs, Baylor Law School strives to develop responsible citizens, educated leaders, dedicated scholars, and skilled professionals who practice with the heart to establish and protect a civil society. To this end, we encourage participation and careers in public service through various organizations and programs including Bear P.A.W.S., the Public Interest Legal Society, and public service focused internships.

Mandy Griffith
Assistant United States Attorney
Eastern District of Texas

Nelson Mandela has said, "There can be no keener revelation of a society's soul than the way in which it treats its children." This sentiment has been a guiding force in my career as a prosecutor. Working as a child abuse prosecutor at the Dallas County District Attorney's Office allowed me to seek justice on behalf of society's most vulnerable victims. The six years I spent as an Assistant District Attorney and my two federal clerkships laid the foundation for my work with the Department of Justice, where I serve as a federal prosecutor working crimes involving the exploitation of children. I cannot think of any better way for me to honor the education and training that I received at Baylor than to work in the public sector as a prosecutor.

Intern, AYUDA
I spent the Summer interning at AYUDA, a non-profit organization that offers legal services to low-income immigrants in the D.C. area. The Baylor Summer Public Interest Fellowship allowed me to offer legal services to, historically, one of the most vulnerable populations in the country. While at AYUDA I worked with clients seeking to adjust their immigration status, petition for other family members and become naturalized. I also assisted in the preparation of several asylum cases and in one case, even gave the opening statement in front of an immigration judge. Most of my clients were domestic abuse, crime and trafficking victims. Others were fleeing persecution in other countries. A large portion of my time was spent helping undocumented immigrants apply for U Visas which allowed crime victims who helped authorities to stay in this country legally. If students are looking for fulfilling and engaging work, then I highly recommend AYUDA.
