Baylor Heads To Dallas For Sweet 16 Round

March 25, 2011

With a win over West Virginia Tuesday night propelled the Lady Bears to their third straight Sweet 16 appearance, making them one of a select few programs in the country that can make that claim. With the win comes a trip to friendly territory in Dallas, where two wins would send the third-ranked Lady Bears to their second straight Final Four. When the brackets were announced last week, the potential of a rematch with Texas A & M was on the top of many fans' tongues. After all, Baylor defeated the Aggies in three very close games this year. But head coach Kim Mulkey stresses that the focus is on a very good Green Bay team, even as fans and media drool over a potential rematch.

And what kind of team is Green Bay? Out of the Horizon League, they're ranked 13th in the nation. Their path to the Sweet 16 was made possible with their 25th consecutive win, this one over Michigan State. Green Bay's last and only loss came over three months ago, a record that has Mulkey and the Lady Bears' respect.

While it's a young Lady Bears team that heads to Dallas, it's a team firmly ingrained as elite nationwide. And they head to Dallas with national expectations for another Final Four run.

They'll take the floor in front of what's expected to be a Baylor-heavy crowd at American Airlines Center Sunday night at 6 p.m. Fans are also invited to be part of a send-off when the Lady Bears leave for Dallas today; interested individuals can see Baylor off at the Ferrell Center this afternoon at 4:30. We'll have more in the coming days on the Lady Bears tournament run, including a look at senior Melissa Jones who is learning to play with full vision in just one eye following an injury at the end of the regular season.
