WACO, TEXAS April 15, 2010 -- Public radio station KWBU, 103.3 FM announces plans to air Marketplace, an entertaining high-energy program on world business and finance from American Public Media. One of the most popular series in the distinguished public radio news line-up, Marketplace will begin airing weekdays, at 6:00 p.m. beginning Monday, May 3, 2010 following NPR's All Things Considered.
"Marketplace is a great program," says KWBU President Joe Riley. "Its business news anyone can understand, enjoy, and most important, use. By presenting business and economic news in a jargon-free, thoroughly engaging fashion, it provides both intellectual and entertainment value for our listeners, and we're very pleased to make it available to KWBU listeners once again. We take comments from our listener members to heart. This is another case where we are responding to the needs of the greater Waco community."
Hosted by Kai Ryssdal, Marketplace covers any story that deals with money. Over 4.7 million listeners nationwide tune in Monday through Friday to hear lively, accessible reports that promise "no data without context, no jargon, and no public policy wonks." The program couples its upbeat, occasionally irreverent style with up-to-the-minute information, a combination that has won it praise from business leaders and journalists.
Regular program features include business headlines, coverage from the Marketplace desks in Beijing, Tokyo, and London; commentaries, closing financial indices worldwide, topical coverage of financial trends, and the business aspects of politics, health, sports, the arts, education, and travel.
Marketplace is public radio's only national series on business. It is produced and distributed by American Public Media in association with the University of Southern California. Award-winning journalist and producer J.J. Yore serves as the program's executive producer.
