Cain Discusses Possibility Of School Closings In Waco I.S.D.Nov. 10, 2011
Budget talks and cuts to education funding dominated the news this summer, and the fiscal realities are now becoming tangible in the form of cuts in local districts. Waco ISD is looking to slash 3.4 million dollars. Superintendent Bonny Cain said the district is looking at areas to apply the scalpel. And while many areas may see less money coming their way, she says the reality is that to cut such a large amount of money from the budget, major actions must be taken. She's recommending that as many as eight campuses close in the coming year, something she suggested in last month's board meeting.
Tomorrow, we'll continue our conversation with Dr. Cain by examining what role the community will play in the decision-making process, as well as the timeline on which such decisions will be made. For KWBU News, I'm Derek Smith.
