- Served on a nationwide Task Force on the Ethics of the Media Coverage of the Mount Carmel standoff sponsored by the Society of Professional Journalists
Accomplishments
- Periodically interviewed on KWTX-TV (Waco's local CBS affiliate) regarding media-related issues, especially those dealing with media law or ethics
- Named a Bickel Fellow and an outstanding doctoral student in the College of Communications at the University of Tennessee
- Named the Outstanding Society of Professional Journalists Campus Chapter Adviser in the United States in 1987
- National Vice President for the campus chapter affairs for SPJ from 1988-1994
- One of the SPJ student chapter advisers at Baylor
- Has been the facilitator twice for the Ted Scripps Leadership Workshop sponsored by SPJ through funding provided by Scripps Howard
- Serve on the Baylor Faculty Senate
- Twice been the recipient of the Rachel Hunter Moore Outstanding Faculty Member Award
