Small classes taught by highly qualified faculty

The Department of Journalism, Public Relations & New Media has been educating practitioners since 1899. Our graduates shape the world. Our name reflects what we do in today's ever-changing media landscape, and our cutting-edge program remains true to the fundamentals of strong, ethical practice. Our professors will know your name.

Beginning writing/editing courses are taught in classes of about 15 students. We don't just teach theory. We share what we've done. And all our classes are taught by professors, not graduate students.

Diverse research interests include new media & politics

Journalism faculty and students take various approaches to scholarship. Interests include new media, media effects, minorities and media, media and civil society, media and religion, new communication technologies, media and politics, community journalism, documentary methods and journalism history. Professors publish, present research, teach and work around the globe and involve undergraduate and graduate students in research.

Current classroom technology, accredited department

Our students use the most current technology in "smart" classrooms that meet or exceed industry standards. We stay on the leading edge of journalism education and meet the profession's highest standards. In short, we are one of some 110 U.S. college journalism departments accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.
