Distribution of Mac OS 10.7 on Campus Computers
October 25, 2011
With the release today of Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion), Apple has moved away from bootable media to installer-based upgrades. Baylor ITS will receive a universal installer as part of our campus licensing agreement.
Although the upgrade will be visible on the Mac App Store, please be mindful of the fact that OS upgrades, due to their effect on other software, still need to be coordinated through the HELP Desk. Installing Mac OS X 10.7 on Baylor-owned machines directly from the App Store has the potential to render the systems inoperable because of possible conflicts with campus systems such as PGP whole disk encryption.
ITS is in the final stages of preparing campus for distribution and expects deployment to begin by mid-November. The delay in distribution is related to a 10.7 compatible PGP client. Our current expectation is that we will receive the final release from PGP by the end of the October with testing to take place the first two weeks of November. We anticipate that release of 10.7 for non-encrypted computers to begin the first week of November. Please contact the ITS Help Desk to request an upgrade or go to Self-Service and submit a ticket.
Please contact the Help Desk if you have any additional questions.
