Phishing Alert Update

Students and employees at Baylor University continue to receive phishing emails, stating that their email account is running out of space or some other "emergency" situation. These emails request a reply with your username and password. Higher education institutions have increasingly been targeted with these types of emails in an effort to gain access to university resources. At no time will ITS send an email asking that you reply with your username/password. If you are in any way suspicious of an email you receive please contact the Helpline (x4357) about the message. Some examples of the emails are located below:

<li>Never click on links within an email message ( always type the URL in your web browser)

From: Global Upgrading Team Help Desk
Sent: Tue Aug 25 13:09:19 2009
Subject: YOUR ACCOUNT MAY BE DELETED IN TWO DAYS TIME

Dear subscriber

This mail is to inform you that {Global Upgrading Team Help Desk} we be upgrading our web mail email site to help block spam. We are also having congestion due to the anonymous registration of accounts so we are shutting down some accounts and your account is among those to be deleted.
We are sending you this email to verify and let us know if you still want to use this account. Due to the congestion in mail server, mailbox would be shutting down all unused Accounts to creat a space for new account.

To confirm your active account, You are required to contact your system administrator through e-mail nucupgradingteam1@live.com with your Username Names and password, these information would be needed to verify your account and to avoid being closed;

please send us the above information so we can proceed from here

Warning!!! Account owner that refuse to send this information after one weeks of receiving this warning will lose his/her account permanently.

every webmail Email User Accounts Owner @baylor.edu for safety. we are having congestions due to the anonymous registration of web_mail accounts so we are shutting down some web_mail accounts and your account was among those to be deleted. We are sending this email to you so that you can verify and let us know if you still want to use this account.

If you are still interested please confirm your account by filling the space below.Your User name, password, date of birth and your country information would be needed to verify your account. Due to the congestion in all web_mail users and removal of all unused webmail Accounts, webmail would be shutting down all unused Accounts, You will have to confirm your E-mail by filling out your Login Information below after clicking the reply button, or your account will be suspended within 24 hours for security reasons.
