Enhancement to Online DirectorySept. 9, 2008
The Baylor Online Directory is about to be easier to use. This change adds to the enhancement of inclusion of photos that was accomplished in June 2008
On Thursday, September 11, Baylor is launching a new look and feel for the Public Directory and our Faculty, Staff and Student Directory. To this point, there has been a single version of the directory for everyone. And, that single version has been somewhat confusing for faculty, staff, and students. There is a lot of information available, but how to find it was not always obvious.
Now, clicking on the "Directory" link found on most pages of the Baylor web site will provide a choice of accessing one of these two directories - Public or Faculty/Staff/Student. The Faculty, Staff and Student Directory will be restricted to use by faculty, staff and current students with a BearID and password. These users will be prompted to login with that BearID and password before results are presented.
The system will "remember" the login until the browser is closed. So to avoid repeated logins for subsequent directory lookups, the browser should be minimized rather than closed. Directory information should be handled as private information. For this reason, users should always lock, logoff, or shutdown computers when computers are left unattended.
Also, another feature to make directory use for faculty and staff simpler will be launched at the same time. Directory searches will be available directly from the main Faculty/Staff Web page.
The Public Directory displays only information that faculty, staff, and students make available to the general public. Faculty, staff, and students may update what information is released via the "Information Release" link within the Faculty, Staff, and Student Directory.
These changes have been implemented in response to information received by both ITS and the Marketing and Communication Division through surveys, focus groups, and user comments. The changes are designed to make working with the online directory easier, and will balance both the need for convenient access to information and our community's need for information privacy and security.
