Baylor University's central information system for services to students, faculty, staff, and alumni is the SunGard Banner software. This software includes SunGard's self service web system, which Baylor has implemented as "BearWeb". A major upgrade to version 7 of these systems is planned for Fall Break Weekend, Oct. 13 -15.
Banner 7 introduces significant technology and user interface improvements. ITS personnel have been pleased to find that the new Banner "look and feel" will be very intuitive for those already familiar with Banner.
The primary technology improvement in Banner 7 will be that it runs in a web browser, such as Internet Explorer. This will simplify installation and also allow for easier access from remote locations.
Regularly implementing new releases of Banner is important to the University. It allows Baylor to utilize SunGard's on-going enhancements, which include regulatory upgrades for government compliance in significant components of the system.
Beginning sometime in September, basic navigation training will be available. Both web-based overview instruction and classroom sessions are being planned. Again, we anticipate the transition to be easy for existing Banner users.
Please note that the Banner system will be unavailable for all three days during the upgrade, including Friday, Oct. 13 (Fall Break).
