A security vulnerability has been discovered in a server component utilized by BearSpace. Baylor's ITS Information Security team has evaluated several approaches to manage this vulnerability and determined that temporarily limiting access to Bearspace is the most effective approach to protect our network. Blackboard, the company that produces BearSpace is working on a patch for the vulnerability and we hope to have that installed as soon as it is released. In the meantime access to BearSpace will be limited to the on-campus network and devices connected using VPN. While this solution creates limitations for those with shared files and websites hosted on BearSpace it is the only way ITS can prevent exploitation of this vulnerability. We appreciate your understanding with this unanticipated service outage and hope to have it restored and soon as the vendor patch is released.
To use Baylor's VPN to connect securely from off campus, visit the ITS website (www.baylor.edu/its/) and look under the Security menu for VPN. Log in using your Bear ID and password and then follow the setup instructions. If you need assistance, please contact the HELP desk at (254) 710-4357 (HELP).
