One student per school may be nominated for the Baylor University scholarship. Only students in grades 11 and 12 are eligible for nomination.
These letters should explain the nominee's eligibility for the scholarship award, based on the information provided on the application form. Letters may include any other information about the student's qualification for the award.
The writing sample may be printed or neatly handwritten; if printed, it should not exceed two pages. The essay should be between 150 and 500 words in length.
In addition to the information on the application form, the selection committee will consider applicants' academic record in high school, recommendations written by students' history fair sponsors and high school principals or counselors, and students' demonstrated interest in attending Baylor University.
The scholarship recipient will be announced at the annual Heart of Texas Regional History Fair awards ceremony, which begins at approximately 5:00 p.m. Friday at the HOTRHF Awards Ceremony.
The $1,000 Ruben Santos Memorial Baylor University scholarship is limited to tuition remission only and may not be used to pay for books, housing, or fees. To be eligible for the tuition award, a student must meet all of the admission requirements of Baylor University, must apply for admission to Baylor through regular procedures, must be accepted into Baylor, and must register for Baylor classes before the scholarship goes into effect.
The student should report receipt of the scholarship in any application for a financial aid package at Baylor University.
