Woodwind & Brass Auditions

Run on 09

Auditions for woodwinds and brass are scheduled in conjunction with the New Student Orientation Sessions during the month of June. There is no need to preregister for auditions as long as you plan to attend a New Student Orientation in the month of June.

If you have a conflict that does not allow for you to come to a New Student Orientation Session, you are allowed to e-mail us an mp3 of your audition. On-campus auditions are preferred!

On the first day of each orientation session, students will attend the Dr. Pepper Hour in the Moody Library from 2:15 - 3:15 pm. Come to the Golden Wave Band information table and you can sign up for an audition time. Auditions are held on the second day of the orientation sessions between Noon and 2 pm.

Auditions are a simple process:

1. Prepare music with two contrasting styles: something that shows off your technical playing skills as well as your lyrical musicianship. The excerpts from etudes or solos should only last a total of two minutes.

2. Prepare the chromatic scale from the lowest to highest note you can comfortably play. It is appropriate to use a triplet pattern for rhythm and to tongue notes of the scale on the way up and slur notes on the way down.

If you are a music major (woodwind and brass) you are not required to perform an audition. The acceptance into Baylor's School of Music serves as your audition for the Marching Band. We do ask however that you still come by the Golden Wave Band information table and let us meet you and provide you with further details about the upcoming season.
