UPDATED INFORMATION FOR FALL 2013
There are three audition camp dates for all students (returning or incoming) who want to participate in the Baylor Drumline in the Fall of 2013. The dates span one Saturday in the months of April, May, and June. The last camp will be the formal audition to set the line and instrumentation for the upcoming season. All students interested should read the audition information below and fill out the registration form for the camps to let us know that you are participating and the instrument(s) you play.
Prospective drumline members should come by the Golden Wave Band Information Table during the Dr. Pepper Hour during your designated two-day New Student Orientation Session in the month of June. This will provide us with an opportunity to update you with the most current information regarding the upcoming season.
The Drumline instructor is Mr. Michael Crawford.
2013 BAYLOR DRUMLINE AUDITION INFORMATION
All prospective Drumline members must already be accepted into Baylor University in order to participate in the audition camps.
Audition Camp Dates
Camp 1: April 6, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
Camp 2: May 4, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
Camp 3: June 8, 9:00 am - 6:00 pm
Camps are held at the McCrary Music Building on the campus of Baylor University.
All students (new or returning) interested in the Baylor Drumline are required to attend the audition camps in order to be considered for a position within the 2013 Golden Wave Drumline. In extreme cases, considerations may be made for a partial absence from a camp. If you have a major conflict with one of the dates please contact Mr. Michael Crawford as soon as possible.
Camps 1 and 2 are focused in the areas of awareness, technique, musicianship, ensemble skills, and in the Baylor style with Baylor music. It also provides the instructors with the opportunity to watch a student's potential for learning and to see how students react in the areas of demeanor, attitude, and rehearsal etiquette. We will provide the opportunity to rotate sections within Camps 1 and 2 if a prospective member is interested in more than one instrument. Camp 3 will start with the formal audition of prepared music and end with the line set for the upcoming 2013 season.
The Baylor Drumline is normally comprised of 8-10 snares, 3-5 tenors, 6 basses, and a matching number of varied cymbals depending on the year (8-15). The Baylor Drumline does not have a front ensemble or pit.
All players, incoming or returning, are required to attend so we can determine ordering and positions within the line.
*NOTE: Percussionists majoring in music are automatically accepted into the Baylor Drumline and by default within the cymbal section. If a music major wants to play an instrument other than cymbals, he/she will need to participate in the camps and audition for either the snare, tenor, or bass lines.
All prospective and returning members must fill out the REGISTRATION FORM (pushing on the link will open a new tab or window). After the form is completed, an e-mail is generated and sent to the staff. You will then receive further instructions on how to download the music from the staff/instructor.
Currently, registration and participation require no fee. Plan to have money for food while you are here at Baylor. THE REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS WEDNESDAY, MARCH 27.
We will provide drums and cymbals. You should bring sticks /mallets. You will receive music via e-mail once you complete the registration form. Snares may wish to bring snare stands, and tenors may wish to bring drums depending on attendance, as we have 5 sets of tenors, no extras.
You may audition for any instrument you wish. During the audition camps you may request to work in other sections if you are interested in auditioning on more than one instrument. Please notify Mr. Dailey if you would like to audition on more than one instrument. On the final audition camp day you will formally audition on the instrument(s) of your choice.
