Maura Jortner, Lecturer, received her PhD from the University of Pittsburgh in 2005. Her research interests include 19th Century American and English drama. She has published multiple articles in Nineteenth Century Theatre and Film and The Journal of American Drama and Theatre. Her most recent publication, "Throwing insults across the ocean: Charles Mathews and the staging of 'The American' in 1824," will appear in Studies in Theatre History and Culture (Iowa University Press, 2008).
