SG Faith

Abraham's faith took him away and into a strange land, through the hardship of a long wait for the fulfillment of God's promise of an heir, and all the way to Mt. Moriah and back with his beloved son Isaac. Here, we see Abraham with his terrible sacrificial knife in hand, yet with a countenance conveying trust in God's benign care. He stands beneath a sky full of stars, signifying God's promise that his children would one day be as numerous as "the stars of the sky." Dietrich Bonhoeffer sits below, presumably writing one of his great works, perhaps Discipleship; in this book he reminds us of the high cost of faithful discipleship. As a prisoner executed in wartime, he paid the price in full, thus confirming his thesis that in true faith there is no cheap grace.
